Rural communities exhibit different attitudes towards the rehabilitation of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Despite the extensive studies carried out globally about ASD rehabilitation, rural communities remain less explored. This research paper, therefore, aims at filling this gap by looking into the attitude of rural communities in Pakistan towards ASD rehabilitation and the challenges experienced while doing so. This study employed a quantitative research approach where 25 parents and 100 community members were surveyed in Society District of Multan using a questionnaire. The results obtained showed varied opinions which were influenced by gender, age and location. Female participants had more positive views on rehabilitation of ASD as compared to their male counterparts while those from urban areas were more supportive of such programs than their rural counterparts. Furthermore, differences in age indicated need for interventions that are tailored so as to accommodate different perspectives among community members. From these findings, it is evident that inclusive culturally sensitive approaches should be considered during efforts aimed at rehabilitating persons suffering from this kind of disorder. Some of the recommendations include programs that are sensitive to gender issues as well as those which are designed with specific locations in mind along with promote intergenerational participation thereby increasing understanding and acceptance levels towards ASD.
