The good behavior of the Prophet (ﷺ) with the Rabāʼib: A historical and Research Review
Abstract
This research article provides a historical and contemporary analysis of the Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) exemplary treatment of stepparents, or Rabāʼib (ربائب). Amidst evolving societal norms and rising divorce rates, blended families have become prevalent, necessitating the definition and acceptance of stepparent roles and the importance of voluntary, compassionate step-relationships. The article highlights that successful step-relationships require innate goodness and the ability to manage responsibilities gracefully. It emphasizes the value of marriages founded on mutual consent and underscores the enduring relevance of the Prophet's teachings in contemporary family contexts. It underscores that the foundation of such successful step-relationships is rooted in the innate goodness of individuals, who, when capable of gracefully managing their responsibilities, can extend their kindness to blended family dynamics. The research ultimately underscores the enduring relevance of the Prophet's (PBUH) teachings on good behavior and compassion in contemporary family contexts.
