The Bible is divided into two primary sections: the Old Testament and the New Testament. Both Jewish and Christian traditions regard these texts as divinely inspired and authoritative. However, the portrayal and concept of Christ differ significantly between these two parts. While the Old Testament, sacred to both Jews and Christians, often presents Christ in prophetic and symbolic terms, the New Testament introduces Christ as the Messiah and central figure of Christian theology. This divergence in interpretation has led to theological debates and differing beliefs between the two faiths. In this article, the concept of Christ in the Old Testament will be explored, with a focus on the messianic prophecies and how they have been interpreted in both Jewish and Christian traditions.
