Abstract

“Raakh” is an important novel by Mustansar Hussain Tarar. Apart from being a social and political history of the fifties, sixties, and seventies, this novel is also a cultural heritage. The reader sees Lahore during its recitation, with which he has lost familiarity today. There is a mix of important and non-important characters to unfold the novel's story. In "Raakh", Mushahid Ali is the main character but his inaction makes him somewhat lifeless. He is like wax which Mustansar Hussain Tarr can give any shape he wants. Another important role is that of Fatima. Fatima makes her existential presence in the novel for a brief period. She changes her religion and marries a Hindu. The third main character is Zahid Kalia. Kalia's father used to sell pots on a bicycle. Bicycle markets used to be part of the fifties. Abdullah Hussain has played various roles in "Nadar Log". Characters from different walks of life are included in this novel. The main characters of this novel include Yaqub Awan, Chacha Ahmed, Ijaz, Sarfaraz, Abbas, Bashir, Malik Jahangir, and other characters. The female characters include Sakina, Kaneez, Nasreen, Naseema, Masi, and others in this novel.
