Abstract

In this article, the main focus is about the two literary terms Haqeeqat (actual/ real meanings) and Majaz (virtual meanings) which have been employed in the Surah Yusuf to explain the Makah, social customs. Thus, this Surah was revealed for two main purposes: One is to provide proof of the Prophethood of Muhammad (peace be upon him) and also the proof of the opponents asking for their own mouths and to prove it in their own test. Granted, you do not narrate what you have heard, but you actually know it through revelation. This purpose is clearly stated in verses 3 and 7 and is also stated in full force in verses 102-103. Secondly, by sticking the story of brothers Yusuf and Yusuf (as) on the issue that was going on between the Quraysh chiefs and Muhammad (peace be upon him) at that time, the Quraysh people should be told that today you are doing the same thing with your brother. You are doing what Joseph's brothers did to them. But just as they did not succeed in fighting God's will and eventually followed in the footsteps of the same brother whom they had once so cruelly thrown into the well, so too did your efforts succeed in the face of God's plan. It will not be possible and one day you too will have to beg for mercy from your brother whom you are bent on eradicating today. This purpose is also clearly stated in the beginning of the surah.
