Abstract

This paper seeks to analyze Uzma Aslam Khan’s novel, The Geometry of God, published in 2007, through the aspects of Marxism. In the light of Marxist literary criticism, the present research proposes a circular connection between state sanctioned masses hovering over religious and scientific ideologies that shape literature. The current study focuses on how social existence of hegemony determines the consciousness of the literature in The Geometry of God by investigating how Khan has portrayed the consciousness of the dominants and repressed social structures of Pakistan in her novel. It examines how the ruling class functions to maintain its religious ideologies by imposing scientific subjugation. The study also includes selected texts from the novel, The Geometry of God, which propose an evidential conjecture between legitimization of Zia-ul-Haq’s regime and the Marxist expression of contemporary Pakistan. The study, hence, provides a comprehensive analysis of peculiar thematic narratives of the novel cohering Marxism and its various aspects.
