Geet is an important genre of Urdu poetry that came to Urdu from Hindi language. When a man expresses his love for a woman, a ghazal is born, whereas if this expression of love was done by a woman, it would have taken the form of a song. When we shed light on the history of Geet Nigari, the name of a poet like Qayyum Nazar cannot be ignored. Qayyum Nazar has been presented by our critics as a sophisticated poet. In the beginning, Qayyum Nazar dominated the world of literature as a poet of Ghazal. With the help of Mira Ji and Halqa Arba-e-Zouq, he tried his hand at other genres of poetry apart from Ghazal. Qayyum Nazar started writing songs inspired by Hindi traditions during this period. Qayyum Nazar introduced the song to a genre that is only sung, but unfortunately no one wrote on his songs except Mukhtar Siddiqui and Riaz Ahmed. His book "Poon Jhakule" is a book based on his songs, apart from this, songs are also found in other books of his poetry. The themes in these songs are diverse and colorful. While on the one hand he gives place to themes like natural scenes in his songs, he also expresses human emotions and feelings and emotional conditions of love very well. These characteristics create uniqueness and distinction in his songs. This paper presents a thematic study of his collection of songs "Pawan Jhakolay".
