The Genre of TRIOLET and its Evolution in Urdu Literature

This article explores the evolution of the Triolet genre in Urdu literature, tracing its inception in 1942 to its current status and potential future. Serving as a reflection of society and culture, poetry encapsulates the emotions and thoughts of a civilization, and globalization, especially through American and European literary influences in the 20th century, significantly impacted languages and literature worldwide. Despite being relatively lesser-known in modern Urdu poetry, the Triolet has made commendable strides over the last seven to eight decades, securing a distinctive place within the Urdu literary landscape. The article investigates the historical roots of Triolet in Urdu, its contemporary acceptance, and hints at its future trajectory, highlighting the poets who have played pivotal roles in shaping the genre and showcasing its evolving presence in Urdu literature. This exploration illuminates the dynamic interplay between cultural, linguistic, and global influences, underscoring Urdu literature's adaptability and resilience in embracing diverse literary forms.
