Causes of Intolerance in Society & its Solution in the Light of Seerah

Abstract

This article delves into the exploration of the Seerah, focusing on the inclination towards tolerance and the root causes of intolerance. Additionally, it proposes solutions to mitigate societal intolerance. The primary objective is to underscore the Seerah's principles and Islamic teachings that contribute to the development of a peaceful society within the framework of Islamic civilization. Within the discourse, the article contends that conflicts and disputes arising ostensibly in the name of religion are often driven by political motives rather than religious doctrinal differences. It emphasizes that a lack of tolerance not only poses challenges to individual lives but also disrupts the fabric of societal and communal existence. The article contends that intolerance breeds frustration, hopelessness, social disparity, and unfavorable domestic conditions, hindering the overall growth and development of a nation. Consequently, adopting appropriate attitudes, fostering optimistic behavior, and cultivating a conducive atmosphere are proposed as key strategies to address these issues. Moreover, the article advocates for a transformation in educational institutions and systems, aligning them with the true essence of Islamic teachings, the Holy Quran, and the sciences of Hadith. It underscores the need to bridge the gap between theoretical and practical education. To achieve meaningful outcomes, economic policies must be reshaped to uplift the conditions of the impoverished, recognizing that an empty stomach hampers the expression of positive discourse and conduct. In summary, this article not only identifies the pressing challenges of oppression, cruelty, uncivilized attitudes, and societal disparity in the contemporary era but also offers solutions. It calls for a holistic approach that encompasses educational reform, attitudinal shifts, and socio-economic changes to pave the way for a more just and harmonious society.
