Abstract

This research paper explores the contemporary schisms and unrest prevalent in Muslim countries, with a particular focus on the subcontinent. Despite Islam's foundational principles of peace and unity, recent divisions have emerged, prompting an examination of the religious teachings that guide Muslims. Islam, inherently a force for unification, categorically rejects violence as a means of expression. The religion explicitly prohibits sectarianism, emphasizing unity among its followers. It is crucial to distinguish between legitimate differences of opinion, rooted in diverse interpretations of the Quran and Sunnah, and the divisive nature of sectarianism. This nuanced perspective recognizes such variations as a "difference of Ijtihad," reflecting variances in knowledge and understanding. Some interpret this term as a complete prohibition on any discussion of opinion, while others view certain discussions and divergences as opportunities for intellectual exploration and growth. This paper delves into these contrasting viewpoints, shedding light on the dynamic discourse surrounding religious interpretation within the Muslim community.
